A Professional Master of Fine Arts
in Digital Cinema Production

The accredited graduate program in film production
offered in a hybrid-online/onsite format

Explore what it means to be a filmmaker
in the digital world.

The Digital Cinema Master of Fine Arts program blends Hollywood and Independent film traditions with hands-on, cross disciplinary approach to professional digital production.

For over 100 years filmmaking has been THE collaborative art form, constantly evolving and adapting to new technologies and emerging markets. To be marketable today a film production professional needs to know how to manage the creative and digital workflow and how to collaborate effectively in a digital environment.

Because the coursework is presented in an online/hybrid format, the program allows students living outside major media markets the opportunity to study film production
with industry professionals in both online classes and in person during the annual digital cinema production residency in Los Angeles.

Since getting into filmmaking and television editing I have learned in a very hodgepodge way. I have managed to teach myself and accumulate the knowledge necessary to develop a career editing television, but I feel that I need to strengthen my foundation in order to bring my career to the next level. For me that means getting an advanced degree.
— Greg, Television editor
My experiences in the program and on the thesis in particular have already worked their way into the lectures I give my undergrads. This has been a
transformative experience both professionally and personally.
— TS, Digital Cinema MFA 2016
A terrific MFA program that is specifically geared toward incumbent workers via hybrid and online training.
— Dan Watanabe, IDEAS - Institute for Developing Entertainment Arts & Studies at LAVC
The online component was a huge draw.
I … don’t have the luxury to return to school full-time. The inclusion of the three onsite courses is a plus - not too much time away from work and an opportunity to get hands-on experience.
As someone who works in the industry - I’m a Field Producer - I was searching for a program that would fit my busy schedule and allow me to gain considerable knowledge in the production aspect of filmmaking. I believe the MFA program at National University is a perfect fit!
— DS, Field Producer, MA
If Einstein had been a filmmaker instead of a mathematician, he would have realized that the unified field theory is “everything is coming together and falling apart at the same time.”
All roads to Successberg are paved with failure. Getting there depends on perseverance, distinguishing essential qualities from the inessential ones, adapting to circumstances and constantly clarifying your intentions until they are realized in the work.
— Alyn Warren, Digital Cinema MFA lead faculty
